TMF is one of the active members of Gender Working group and MHM working committee involved in advocacy and policy issues on MHM.
The mission of TMF is to contribute towards increased retention of girl children in school through ending teenage pregnancy and child marriages in Uganda TMF has made various contributions towards supporting MHM activities in Uganda.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education through the Gender Unit TMF has been able to build capacities of senior women and men teachers to understand and appreciate the importance of creating MHM friendly schools for example through separate toilets for boys and girls, promotion of well-equipped changing rooms. TMF together with Gender Unit reached over 51 districts of Uganda covering all regions including Northern, western, Southern, central and Karamoja regions. TMF in partnership with Ministry of Education under the Gender unit support dissemination of the Menstruation Hygiene Management readers to primary schools in all regions in Uganda.
TMF currently advocates for male involvement in MHM through working with 90 boys and men champions in 11 subcounties in six districts of Uganda including; Lira, Alebtong, Bukedea, Tororo, Kamuli and Buyende in promoting and protecting of girls’ rights as well as supporting girls in making local pads.
TMF rolls out activities aimed at building capacities of adolescent girls and boys to understand sexual maturation, growth and development. The main purpose is to enable them manage menstruation as well as increase girl’s participation in schools at all levels; a strategy towards keeping girls in school longer.
