Girl Education Club and Adolescent Volunteer Initiative (AVI) gives a chance for a boy champion to advocate against FGM and girls abuses

Kibet Emmanuel, a 17year old boy from Kalas lower village Amudat district is a student of S4, Pokot Girls Secondary School 2019. Kibet is the first born in a family of 4 children who loves school and encourages other adolescents out of school to go back to school. He is an active member of the Girl Education Club, where he fully participates in club peer to peer activities. His turning point was when he was nominated by the GEC members and school administration to participate in the Adolescent Volunteer Initiative (AVI) trainings in Moroto and Arua districts district.

“I thank the school administration and TMF for considering me to champion for issues that affect adolescents particularly FGM in Amudat. My first visit was in Moroto district for training on Adolescent Volunteer Initiative (AVI) and later Arua district. The training on AVI equipped me with knowledge and understanding on dangers of FGM which has left many girls in a state of misery and falling victims of FGM, teenage pregnancy and child marriage. I promised myself to champion protection and promotion of adolescent girls’ rights” Voiced Kibet

“Kibet is a very active GEC member who speaks out boldly against FGM. His active involvement in GEC club and AVI training built his skill to advocate and boldly speak out against dangers of FGM. Kibet uses school assembly as a platform to pass messages to adolescent girls to shun FGM and to stay in school. By end of term 3, 2019, Kibet successfully brought 6 girls back to school” The Senior Women Teacher, acknowledged.
