The Girls Advocacy Alliance (GAA) is a four and a half year joint project (2016-2020) funded by PLAN International Uganda that secured a grant with the Dutch Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – under the Dialogue and Dissent, Lobbying and Advocacy Strategic Partnerships 2016-2020 through Plan International Netherlands National Office, Terre des Hommes and Defence for Children – ECPAT. The project aims to promote equal rights and opportunities for girls and young women in 10 countries spread across Africa and Asia. In Uganda, the project envisions world where all girls and young women enjoy equal rights and opportunities and they benefit equally from development outcomes. It targets adolescent girls and young women between the ages of 10-24 years affected by gender based violence and economic exclusion living in rural poor and urban slum communities. These include out of school girls, child mothers, orphans, those with disability/special needs, refugees, from child headed and women headed households. The GAA partners supported by Plan International Uganda include Trailblazers Mentoring Foundation addressing child marriage at local level and Joy for Children operating at National level while Restless Development addressing economic exclusion of girls and young women. For this project, TMF aims at attaining girls and young women no longer experiencing GBV and live in a safe and protected environment.
