GIRLS GET EQUAL (GGE) PROJECT

The Girls Get Equal (GGE) project is an initiative by like-minded CSOs intended to ensure girls understand the value of education enroll in school, stay in school, and complete school subsequently delaying early/child/forced marriages thereby achieving their potential dreams. It has a coverage of 100 primary schools, 20 Secondary schools within the selected 20 sub-counties in the 04 districts of Adjumani, Nebbi, Pakwach, and Zombo. The key focus on this target group is thus to keep children in school and reach them with key ASRHR messages and information. The project will Establish clubs and groups comprised of girls and young women in and out of school to Educate them on their roles and responsibilities to stay in school, end Early/Child/Forced Marriages, and equip them with knowledge and information on appropriate information to access and utilize appropriate SRHR services to Empower them with personal ability to make meaningful decisions to get equal and thrive. Establish Peer groups to share information and support each other to alleviate the potential social challenges faced by girls and young women in their schools and communities. Educate In order to impart relevant skills to create positive change in knowledge attitudes and practices of adolescent girls and young women to enable them stay in and complete school. Empower Girls and young women with basic skills to boost their income, improve their life skills to enable them to participate meaningfully and equally in issues that affect them. The Girls Get Equal (GGE) project has strength in the inevitable power of building synergies to create a positive impact in the lives of girls and young women, in the 04 selected districts of WestNile, in order to contribute to the achievement of aspirations of international human rights frameworks such as CEDAW, UNCRC, and CRPD as ratified by the government of Uganda, with specific emphasis inclined to attain SDGs 1,4,5,10. TMF’s outcomes are backed by the fact Uganda loses approximately 10 billion UGX annually as a result of child marriages, keeping them in school will directly address this factor. WHERE WE ARE WORKING; West Nile in Northern Uganda covering Districts of Adjumani (Ukusijoni and Itirikwa sub-counties), Nebbi, (Kucwiny, Nyaravur, Akworo, Parombo, Erusi, and Ndhew sub-counties), Pakwach (Panyimur, Panyango, Wadelai, Alwi, Pakwach sub-counties, and Pakwach Town Council), Zombo (Zeu, Warr, Jangukuru, Nyapea, Kangu, and Paidha sub-counties) in 100 primary schools, 20 secondary schools, and 100 communities. The project primary target group: Children, particularly adolescent girls and boys in the age range of 10-18 years and young women and men 19 to 24 years old. THE PARTNERS: The project is financially supported by NORAD through Plan International Uganda and implemented by 03 like-minded CSOs. Plan International Uganda leads the consortium in close alliance with Trailblazers Mentoring Foundation- TMF and Agency For Accelerated Regional Development- AFARD. The partners have the following mandates; Plan International Uganda will focus on Outcome 4: To Raise Awareness and Influence Change in social norms and practices to end child marriage and Outcome 5: To strengthen policy framework and civil society engagement to protect adolescent girls from child marriages and teen pregnancies. TMF will focus on Outcome 1: To Promote measures for retention and Keeping children safe in schools and Outcome 2: To Increase knowledge on Sexual Reproductive Health Rights among adolescents. AFARD will engage communities on Outcome 3: To PromoteYouth Economic empowerment and support critically poor caregivers of vulnerable adolescent girls to avert child marriages
