She Leads Project

She Leads is an advocacy programme that builds on the Girls Advocacy Alliance (GAA) project that aimed to ensure equal rights and opportunities for girls and young women. She Leads aims to ensure that GYW perspectives are included in gender responsive laws and policies and society norms and practices through increased sustained influence of GYW on decision making and transformation of gender norms in formal and informal institutions. She Leads will work with and build the capacity of CSO’s, women led organizations and girl and young women led groups to achieve the following outcomes: 1. Enhanced collective actions of GYW and CS networks to influence decisions on involvement of GYW in public decision making in the targeted areas of operation by 2025. 2. Increased acceptance of positive gender norms among targeted communities by 2025 3. Government (MoGLSD,DLGs,Parliament, Parliamentary Youth Affairs Forum and Uganda Women Parliamentary Association(UWOPA)implements national and regional policies and commitments that enable meaningful participation of GYW in decision making in the targeted districts by 2025) TMF will implement the She Leads project in the districts of Kamuli and Buyende in Eastern Uganda and will directly target 200 girls and young women. The project will be implemented in 02 Sub Counties in each of the districts. The Sub Counties include Bugaya and Kagulu in Buyende and Butansi and Namasagali in Kamuli. Adolescent girls and young women will undergo a selection process that will identify beneficiaries by level of vulnerability. These will be grouped into clubs that will be supported with capacity building training, life skills, mentorship and peer support over the duration of the project. Each club will comprise of 50 girls and young women. Special emphasis will be placed on identifying and supporting girls and young women living with disability. The girls and young women will be empowered to speak up and demand for their right to participate in leadership and decision making processes right from home to national level. They will be supported to identify opportunities for engagement with stakeholders including district leaders, traditional and religious leaders and CSO’s. By the end of the project, girls and young women should be able to meaningfully participate and take up leadership positions, engage in decisions that affect their wellbeing and support their peers to demand for their rights.
