Mukatete Mable, a girl facing challenges in a blended family and dealing with bullying due to her plus size, experienced a positive transformation through the Girls Empowering Girls (GEG) program introduced at her school in 2019. The mentoring aspect of the program played a crucial role in boosting her confidence and self-awareness. Mable began appreciating her body, took better care of herself, and even assumed a leadership role at school, advocating for the importance of self-esteem and education.
The mentoring experience motivated Mable to extend her influence beyond her school, educating other children about living with oneself and with others, emphasizing rights, and promoting staying in school. Additionally, she became involved in financial literacy sessions, learning about business and personal financial management. Inspired by this, Mable invested in skilling activities, using cash transfers to buy materials for crocheting clothes and shaggy mats. This venture proved successful, with profits totaling UGX 450,000/-. She plans to use these profits to pay for her school fees in the 2024 academic year, ensuring she doesn’t drop out of school. Mable credits the Girls Empowering Girls program for her positive journey and expresses gratitude for the transformative impact it had on her life.
