From Struggles to Strength: Anume’s Journey of Transformation through the Girls Empowering Girls Program

Anume Constance Mirriam, an 18-year-old resident of Jinja Road Police Barracks in Naguru, Kampala, shares a compelling story of transformation. Before joining the Girls Empowering Girls (GEG) program in 2019, Anume faced financial struggles, sexual abuse, and low self-esteem. The communal bathroom exposed her to further vulnerabilities. After being selected for the GEG program, Anume was paired with a supportive peer mentor named Mystica, which marked a turning point in her life. With mentorship, she gained confidence, addressed health issues, and overcame depression. Beyond academics, Anume excelled in sports, learned tailoring, and became the president of the scouts and guides in her school. Today, she is a happy and hopeful young woman, aspiring to become a human rights ambassador. Anume credits her transformation to the Girls Empowering Girls program and expresses gratitude to Trailblazers Mentoring Foundation (TMF), Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), and UNICEF. Her story highlights the positive impact of programs supporting young girls facing adversity.
