
Wadelai Integrated Skills Training Centre recently celebrated the graduation of a remarkable cohort of 30 girls, who have spent the past three months acquiring invaluable skills in tailoring, hairdressing, computer literacy, and more. This achievement is made possible through the support of Trailblazers Mentoring Foundation (TMF) and funding from PlanUganda under the Girls Get Equal Project.
The graduation ceremony was a momentous occasion, marking a significant milestone in the lives of these young women. The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including the LC5 Chairperson of Zombo District, who was the chief guest. In his remarks, the LC5 Chairperson emphasized the importance of such programs in empowering young women and promoting gender equality. “This program is a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of education and skills training. It’s heartening to see these girls transform their lives, and I encourage all stakeholders to continue supporting such impactful initiatives,” he said.
The District Education Officer of Pakwach also praised the program, highlighting its positive impact on the community. “The Skills Training Centre has made a significant difference in the lives of these girls. The skills they have acquired will not only benefit them but also contribute to the development of our communities. We look forward to seeing the continued success of these graduates,” She remarked.

The LC5 Chairpersons of Nebbi and Pakwach Districts were also present and shared their appreciation for the program. The LC5 Chairperson of Nebbi noted, “Programs like these are essential for bridging the gap in education and skills development. We commend TMF and its partners for their dedication and look forward to more collaborative efforts in the future.”
Similarly, the LC5 Chairperson of Pakwach highlighted the importance of ongoing support for such initiatives. “This graduation is a milestone that reflects the hard work and determination of these girls. It is crucial that we continue to support and build on these efforts to ensure sustained impact and success,” he stated.
TMF Executive Director, Joyce Atimango Okker, expressed her pride and admiration for the graduates, stating, “We have witnessed firsthand the incredible transformation of these girls since they arrived at the center. Today, we celebrate the resilience and hard work of these girls who have transformed their lives through the Skills Training Centre. Their stories inspire us all.”

The impact of the program was highlighted by the testimony of one of the graduates, who shared her journey at the graduation ceremony. “Dropping out of school was tough, but this program has given me a second chance. I can’t wait to start my own business!” her words echoed the hope and determination that the Skills Training Centre has fostered in its participants.

Patrick Emukule, West Nile Regional Manager at Plan International Uganda, underscored the significance of such skilling programs. “Our commitment to promoting gender equality for sustainable development is evident in initiatives like TMF’s at the Wadelai Integrated Skills Training Centre,” he said. Emukule’s remarks emphasized the critical role of these programs in empowering young women and contributing to their long-term success.

The graduation of these 30 girls represents more than just the completion of a training program—it symbolizes a new beginning filled with opportunities and the potential to create positive change in their communities.
